Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)

Many students entering the College of Western Idaho (CWI) bring a depth of knowledge in specific subjects that has been gained through life experiences or a variety of instructional means. Students who have been accepted and are currently enrolled as CWI students may convert this learning into alternative credit through Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). This includes Advanced Placement, CLEP, DSST Exams, International Baccalaureate, Vertical Credit, Challenge Exams, and Portfolios. You can find course equivalencies in the PLA Student Handbook link below. You can also read the policy related these PLA options in the link below.

The content below provides the methods of PLA for each credit course offered at CWI.  The costs noted are the costs of the assessment that must be paid prior to completing the assessment. For more information about credit for prior learning Opportunities including standardized exams (AP, CLEP, IB, etc.), vertical credit, challenge exams, and portfolios, please review the PLA Student Handbook and see a Student Success Advisor
