Visiting Artist - Dan Ansotegui
College of Western Idaho (CWI) is proud to welcome artist, Dan Ansotegui, to the Nampa Campus Academic Building (NCAB) Thursday, Nov. 2, from 5-6 p.m. Along with a performance on the accordion, Ansotegui will discuss the history of Basque people, their music, and culture.
The following day, on Friday, Nov. 3, Ansotegui will host an accordion workshop at the Boise Basque Museum in downtown Boise from 1-3 p.m. Participants will have an opportunity to work closely with Ansotegui and learn the processes, techniques, and methods of playing various instruments, including the accordion. Additionally, those in attendance will be able to tour the museum. Contact Goran Fazil at goranfazil@cwi.edu to attend as space is limited. Students who would like a ride to the workshop are invited meet at NCAB at 12:30 p.m.
CWI’s Visiting Artist Series is made possible through a grant from Idaho Commission on the Arts, which is supported by National Endowment for the Arts. Visiting Artist Series workshops, featuring visual and performing artists, are free and open to the public.
Priority Registration
College of Western Idaho (CWI) is excited to announce the debut of priority registration for continuing students for the Spring 2018 semester. This will allow returning students a chance to enroll in classes ahead of others in order to stay on track to graduate. Priority registration begins Monday, Nov. 13, at 9 a.m., while open registration starts Nov. 20.
- Students can register online anytime on or after their assigned registration time.
- Continuing students who enrolled any semester since fall 2015 are eligible.
- Assigned registration times are based on cumulative credits earned.
- Students can check myCWI and CWI email for their assigned time.

STEM Out! Event Dazzles Future Students
College of Western Idaho (CWI) held its annual event STEM Out! into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Medical Careers Saturday, Oct. 14. More than 140 sixth through ninth graders attended, while 24 programs were represented and numerous staff and faculty participated from CWI.
“All of the kids had a wonderful time! They were so excited to tell me about it that they had a hard time taking turns in the car on the way home,” said one parent. “All evening I've had kids coming to tell me something else they learned or enjoyed that they had forgot to tell me. I appreciate all of the work that went into making it an amazing day. Thank you!”
STEM Out! offers potential future CWI students career information and hands-on experience in many CWI programs. From Archaeology and Biology to Cyber Security and Dental Assisting to Drafting and Law Enforcement to Surgical Technology and Welding, sixth to ninth graders in attendance had the opportunity to experience potential careers and begin thinking about their futures.
“My friends and I had a lot of fun while learning about all the interesting STEM careers offered at CWI,” said Ashley Hardy, a student at the event.
Connections Project - Save the Date April 26
Save the date for College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) third annual Connections Project. This year’s event will take place on Thursday, Apr. 26 from 3-8 p.m.
The goal of this energizing and collaborative event is for CWI students, faculty, staff, and community members is to make connections, educate others, and inspire innovation and creativity – all of which also support CWI’s core themes of student success, inclusive excellence, and community connections.
Last year’s event involved 140 presenters, a majority of whom were CWI students presenting posters, presentations, and other work from their classes. Of the 108 attendees and participants who completed the post-event survey, 91 percent reported they were inspired by the event, and 86 percent agreed being at the Connections Project made them feel more connected to CWI, community members, or people from other parts of the world. Phi Theta Kappa Member Receives National Scholarship
College of Western Idaho student, Tasi Goodell, was selected as a 2017 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
The Leaders of Promise Scholarship, sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, 200 Phi Theta Kappa members with awards totaling $200,000. Twenty-five of these scholarships are earmarked for society members who are active personnel or veterans of the U.S. Military.
This year’s recipients were selected by a panel of independent judges from nearly 1,000 applicants. Scholars are selected based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership potential.
The Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program was launched in 2001 to assist new Phi Theta Kappa members in obtaining an associate degree and encourage participation in society programs.

Fire Drill Results Available
CWI fall semester fire drills have been completed. These fire drills/evacuations are to prepare
students, faculty, and staff for an organized evacuation in case of a fire or other emergency requiring
evacuation.
Each campus evacuated quickly and efficiently utilizing the evacuation routes specific to their area. The building administrators and floor captains did an outstanding job of clearing their assigned areas and reporting to the centralized location in a calm and professional manner.

CWI Showcase – Business, IT, and Communication Event
College of Western Idaho (CWI) will showcase Business, Information Technology (IT), and Communication programs on Nov. 2 to future students, current students, and members of the community. The CWI Ada County Campus Pintail Center will be hopping as faculty showcase their programs with help from industry.
Attendees will experience some of the great educational opportunities available at CWI and find information on financial aid, introduction to college, and more. Anyone interested in a future in the Business, IT, or Communication is encouraged to participate!
