These workshops will cover methodologies for enhancing your Blackboard and Office 365 SkillsStudy Skills & Time Management StrategiesListening & Note Taking Techniques, Memory Retention Skills, Study Group Strategies, Exam Preparation-Exam Taking Strategies, and Exam Stress Reduction Techniques. Students enrolled in Onsite, Hybrid, Hyflex, and Online Course Sections are encouraged to attend any of these free workshop sessions. Workshops will be collaborative sessions—so participation will be encouraged! Instructors who provide additional credit for attendance will be notified of participation.

    Are you a new student who is curious about the computer skills that you will need across campus or a current student who has struggled to use Blackboard, Word, Excel, or your student email in the past? 

    Great news! Tutoring Services will be putting on a series of workshops to help students just like you. No matter what you are studying, these workshops will cover all sorts of important computer skills to have: 

    • Student Email (Outlook) 
    • Calendar (Outlook) 
    • Microsoft Word 
    • Microsoft Excel 
    • Microsoft PowerPoint 
    • Blackboard 
    • MyCWI 

    These programs will be used to communicate with your instructors and advisor, receive and submit assignments, view your grades, enroll in classes, and more throughout your journey at CWI. Whether you are new to using them entirely or just want to brush up on your skills, we encourage you to join us!

  • Final Exams Preparation Strategies

    This session will focus on strategies for enhancing your preparations for final exams.

    The discussion will include the five-seven day study plans, tips for reviewing lecture notes, textbook readings, other course materials, and the preparation of critical summary exam review notes. Test taking strategies for various types of exams including essay, short response, matching, true/false, multiple choice, online exams will also be discussed. Test stress reductions tips will be covered at the conclusion of the workshop.

    This will be a collaborative workshop, so participation will be encouraged!

  • Exam Preparation & Test Taking Strategies

    These workshops have concluded for the semester.

    This session will focus on strategies for enhancing test preparation & test-taking strategies.

    The discussion will include the five- and seven-day preparation techniques, tips for reviewing lecture notes/textbook readings, test review aids, and testing strategies for various exams...including online, multiple-choice, short answer, true/false, and essay exams. Test Stress Reduction Techniques will focus on stress relievers you can accomplish before and during exams.

    This will be a collaborative workshop, so participation will be encouraged!

  • Study Skills & Time Management Strategies

    These workshops have concluded for the semester.

    This session will focus on strategies for enhancing study skills techniques & time management strategies.

    The discussion will include learning styles and characteristics, personality preferences, mindsets, and critical thinking skills. Time management discussion will include benefits of effective time management strategies, electronic versus nonelectronic calendars, pitfalls to time management schedules, internal/external distractors, and examples of effective time management schedules.

    This will be a collaborative workshop, so participation will be encouraged!

  • Listening & Note Taking Strategies

    These workshops have concluded for the semester.

    This session will focus on strategies for enhancing listening and note-taking strategies for regular, hybrid, and online courses.

    The discussion will focus on listening & reading skills unique to note-taking strategies. Several note-taking methods...including Cornell, Outline, Charting, Mapping, and Sentence will be covered. The challenges of speed variations in thinking, speaking, and writing will also be discussed.

  • Memory Retention Strategies

    These workshops have concluded for the semester.

    This session will focus on strategies for enhancing memory retention for in-class lectures, textbook readings, and online course content.

    The discussion will include some interesting brain facts, the forgetting curve, basic concepts on how the brain stores information utilizing encoding, storage, and retrieval techniques. Understanding the differences between Short Term Memory (stm), Long Term Memory (ltm), schemas, Procedural versus Declarative Knowledge, and Multisensory Strategies. The six basic forgetting theories and the Twelve Principles of Memory will also be covered.

  • Successful Study Group Strategies

    These workshops have concluded for the semester.

    This session will focus on strategies for forming and facilitating effective study groups for your courses.

    Learn how study groups can be an effective tool for helping you get the grade you want for a course. You will also learn the pitfalls of conducting poorly-run study groups.
