Cathy Carson is a member of the Math Department at the College of Western Idaho. She has been with CWI since its first semester in January 2009. She teaches both college prep and transfer level mathematics. In addition to her teaching duties, Cathy has served on many college committees. She is currently Faculty Senate President and College Council Co-chair.
Cathy received a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Idaho and for 9 years taught all levels of math at Moscow High School. During and after earning her master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Portland State University, Cathy worked at programming and test engineering jobs in the Portland area. After relocating with her family to the Treasure Valley, Cathy was happy to return to the classroom with the opportunity to teach at CWI.
Cathy has held a wide variety of jobs throughout her life, including restaurant and retail positions. Her favorite jobs for their uniqueness were working at an Outdoor school in Oregon, working at a shop that created gift baskets, and working as an educator at Sea World San Diego.
Cathy is married and has one son. She loves spending time with her family, traveling, reading, cooking and eating.
