CWI Facts at a Glance Updated
The College of Western Idaho (CWI) Fall 2014 Facts at a Glance is now available. CWI Facts at a Glance provides a statistical overview of the College and is a valuable resource for learning more about the CWI. CWI Marketing and Advancement will also have hard copies available this month at each campus location. Visit cwi.edu/info/facts-glance to view Facts at a Glance online.
CWI Returns to Festival of Trees
College of Western Idaho (CWI) returned to the Canyon County Festival of Trees, Nov. 28 – Dec. 1, with an entry in the annual fundraising event for the second consecutive year. The event, hosted at the Ford Idaho Center, serves as a benefit for Canyon County Meals on Wheels. The CWI tree was sponsored by the College’s Fun and Culture Committee and designed by the CWI Horticulture Club. This year’s theme was Silver Bells.
Mini-Grant Recipients Announced
The College of Western Idaho (CWI) Foundation is pleased to award the winners of this year's mini-grants. There were 13 applications submitted and the following five applicants were awarded mini-grants by the Scholarships and Grants Committee of the CWI Foundation:
- American Sign Language (ASL) Mirror $395 (submitted by Gayla Huskey) – Purchase and install a large mirror at the Nampa Campus Academic Building Language Lab, room 209B. ASL students will be able to practice signs that include phonemic components including movement of the face and torso as well as the hands.
- Media Lab Expansion $727 (submitted by Michelle Mahoney) – Purchase additional media equipment that will be used by students in the Media Club and Communication classes.
- Medical Assistant Suture Arms $825 (submitted by Courtney Santillan) – Purchase five life-like arms for students in the Medical Assisting programs in both Professional Technical Education and Workforce Development to learn and perform hands-on training in removing sutures and staples, performing dressing changes, packing and caring for wounds, and performing cultures.
- Racermate Computrainer $865 (submitted by Tim Curry) – Funding will assist in the purchase a Racermate Computrainer for the CWI Human Performance and Health Lab to perform physiology testing on cyclists. This new equipment will allow the lab to offer services to cyclists in the Treasure Valley which will give more hands-on experience to the students.
- Video Display Cart $1,165 (submitted by Dave Sperry) – Funding will assist in the purchase of a TV and camera for the Machine Tool Program. This equipment will be used to both display live teaching demonstrations and record the demonstrations for student review. Students will be able to review the more complex demonstrations on their own time allowing for more hand-on time in class.
The CWI Foundation’s goal is to increase funding for mini-grants to allow for more awards each year. Mini-grants are funded by generous contributions from community supporters, businesses, and CWI employees. Staff Senate Brown Bag Lunches Continue
College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Staff Senate is hosting its second Brown Bag Lunch on Tuesday, Dec. 9. The lunches will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at various campus locations. Staff members are invited to attend all or part of the following sessions:
- Canyon County Center, Room 112 A/B, with Victor Villanueva, Tony Tinè, and Andrea Schumaker
- Micron Center for Professional Technical Education, Room 1701 A/B, with Shannon Chapman, Linda Hyde
- Nampa Campus Academic Building, Room 201, with Erica Compton, Morriah Marks, and Brittney Trimmer
- Ada County Campus Pintail Center, Room 1313, with Connor McComas and Josee Ward
There were great discussions during the Brown Bag Lunch hosted in September and updates have been prepared for the following topics:
- Tuition Waiver Proposal
- Leave Bank
- Daycare
- Food Services
- Safety
- Weapons on Campus
- The Wayfinding Project
Staff Senate is looking forward to talking with colleagues about these important topics and will continue to host more Brown Bag Lunches in the future. Any staff member unable to attend the Brown Bag Lunch can get an update by attending the next monthly Staff Senate meeting on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m., at the Nampa Campus Academic Building, Room 312F.
CWI Ugly Sweater Returns
The CWI Fun and Culture Committee invites all CWI employees to wear an Ugly Holiday Sweater on December 19! Check back next week for more details and prize information.
In the meantime look for the ugliest sweater you can find to sport at work.
HR Updates
Updated Emergency Contact Information
In order to comply with a new federal law, College of Western Idaho (CWI) is updating the way it obtains emergency contact information. In addition to the emergency contact, employees will now have the ability to indicate a separate person to be notified if an employee is determined to be missing.
Employees who wish to use their current emergency contact as their missing person contact, no action is required; Human Resources will update the information. To update emergency contact and / or missing person contact information, complete a New Employee Information form and submit it to Human Resources. Please contact Human Resources with any questions.
Tax Update
It’s almost the end of the year, which means it’s almost tax time. CWI will be sending out W2s in January, so now is a great time for employees to make sure correct address information is on file. Anyone needing to update their address can complete the Employee Information Change form and submit it to Human Resources.
