Showcase your innovative projects, research, and creative work at College of Western Idaho's (CWI) annual Connections Project for your chance at a Connections Excellence Award! Choose from a poster, mini talk, club and group activity, and more. 

  • The first place winner in each category will receive $300.
  • The second and third place winners in each category will receive $200.

2025 Submission Deadline

Friday, April 4 @ 11:59 p.m. 

  • Work created for CWI classes completed after March 31, 2024, is accepted.
  • Please review the submission requirements below before submitting your work. 

Submit Your Work

  • Posters

    Highlight your class research and projects by creating a poster to display and present during the event. 

    • Students may submit up to two (2) posters in each of the following categories:
      • Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences (HASS)
      • Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM)
    • For your submission, .ppt, .pdf, .jpeg, and .png files of your poster are accepted.
    • Poster should be 36" x 48".
    • Color throughout you poster with text, images, and shapes is encouraged. 
    • Please refrain from using a solid dark color or full image for the background. 
    • To ensure print quality, posters should be designed at 300 pixels per inch. For a 36" x 48" poster, this would be 10,800 by 14,400 pixels. 
    • In your submission, you will select a one-hour time frame, between 2 – 5 p.m., to present and share your work with event attendees.  
  • Mini Talks

    Share your class projects, accomplishments, or experiences by preparing a mini talk! 

    • Your mini talk may be presented live or recorded. 
    • Students may submit up to one (1) mini talk in each of the following categories: 
      • Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences (HASS)
      • Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM)
    • The same mini talk may not be used for both a live presentation and a recorded presentation.
    • Create a title for your mini talk to use in your submission. 
    • Mini talks should not exceed five (5) minutes in length. 

    LIVE Talks

    Live mini talks will be presented at the Connections Project event.

    • As part of your submission, you will select a time frame to present, between 2 – 5 p.m. 
    • You are expected to bring all materials necessary for the presentation.
    • Please be prepared with multiple ways to access any necessary files.
    • Following your presentation, there will be a 5-minute question and answer period. 

    RECORDED Talks

    • Recorded mini talks should be submitted using a URL to YouTube or Microsoft Stream.
  • Clubs

    Student clubs may present any work completed by club members at an event approved by Student Engagement.

    • Each club may submit one (1) entry for judging.
    • Approved events may include, but are not limited to, community service, research, projects, etc.
    • Presentations may be in the format of your choice (e.g., a 10-minute presentation/video/demonstration, an installation, a table event, or a poster). 
    • All work must be created and produced by students, featuring students and their work.
    • Events not approved by Student Engagement can be presented at the event but will not be judged nor awarded prize money.
  • Enrichment Groups

    Current enrichment groups at CWI include: 

    • Business Professionals of America 
    • Bridges to Baccalaureate 
    • Entrepreneur Lab
    • Honors Program 
    • Honor Society 
    • Army ROTC
    • Skills USA 
    • Speech & Debate 

    Enrichment group work may include, but is not limited to, community service, research, projects, etc. 

    • Each enrichment group may submit one (1) entry for judging. Additional entries may be presented as time and space allows.
    • Presentations may be in the format of your choice (e.g., a 10-minute presentation/video/demonstration, an installation, a table event, or a poster).
    • All work must be created and produced by students, featuring students and their work. 
  • Other Cool Stuff

    Artwork, technology, videos, websites, and more that do not fit well in the above categories may be also be submitted! 

    • Students may submit up to two (2) entries in the "Other Cool Stuff" category.
    • Submissions will be displayed and presented at the event.
    • As part of your submission, you will select a time frame to present, between 2 – 5 p.m.
