Speech and Debate Begins 2019-2020 Competitive Season
College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) national championship Speech and Debate team started off their 2019-2020 season at the Fran Tanner Invitational hosted by College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Sept. 27-29. Twelve students representing CWI were among the seven schools competing.

“What makes the above so special is there were no novice or junior speech divisions at this tournament, meaning every novice was competing against people with eight years of experience,” said former member of CWI’s Speech and Debate team and new Director of Forensics, Luke Yeates. “The fact that we have so many taking home awards is astounding. Also, the tournament only broke perfect debate records, which is very rare. At any other tournament both Will and Lydia would have taken home debate trophies.”
The team is now preparing for the Steve Hunt Classic, hosted by Lewis and Clark in Portland, Oct. 11 – 13.
Idaho Center Boulevard Road Closure
North Idaho Center Boulevard will be closed from Birch Lane to Cherry Lane starting Oct. 7 due to construction for the Idaho Center Apartments. The closure is expected through Nov. 12.
East Terra Linda Way will be the only access to and from the Nampa Campus Academic Building. Access to the Aspen Creek buildings will be limited to Birch Lane.

Indigenous Peoples' Day
Mark your calendars for College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Indigenous Peoples' Day event Oct. 14, at 5;30 p.m. at the Nampa Campus Academic Building (NCAB), in room 102E. The featured guest speakers are Ron Sam, a Northern Paiute tribal member from Summit Lake, Nev., and Norm Cavanaugh, a Shoshone tribal member from Duck Valley, Nev. Cavanaugh will be presenting "Native American Beliefs and Contributions" and Sam will be sharing his artistic expression in the form of beading, leatherwork, and drumming. The event is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by the Diversity Committee, Student Engagement, and the Department of Culture, History, and Politics.
Fall 2019 Transfer Fair
College of Western Idaho invites you to the Fall 2019 Transfer Fair! College and university representatives will be on-campus to discuss programs, majors, and transfer requirements. This one-day event will be held at two different campus locations:

2019 Halloween Costume Contest
Something is brewing! It is time to showcase your creative costuming on Thursday, Oct. 31, by participating in College of Western Idaho’s Culture and Employee Engagement Committee’s annual Halloween Costume Contest. Prizes will be awarded for best overall individual, overall group, and overall by building. Costumes must be worn at work to be eligible to win.
To enter, simply send photos of individual or group costumes to ceec@cwi.edu by end of day Nov. 1. Winners will be announced on Nov. 4.
