CWI Names Title IX Coordinator
College of Western Idaho (CWI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan Herring as CWI’s new Title IX Coordinator. Herring currently works in the CWI Human Resources Department.
Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a significant focus for educational institutions. Title IX protects students, employees, applicants for admission and employment, and other persons from all forms of sex discrimination, including discrimination based on gender identity or failure to conform to stereotypical notions of masculinity or femininity. All students (as well as all non-students) at institutions receiving federal financial assistance are protected by Title IX—regardless of their sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, part- or full-time status, disability, race, or national origin—in all aspects of a recipient’s educational programs and activities. Due to the importance of Title IX, CWI has been reviewing policies and procedures to ensure the College is in compliance.
As Title IX Coordinator, Herring will continue to report to Human Resources. He will also continue his employee relations responsibilities until a replacement is hired. Watch for additional policy and procedure updates from Herring and the Title IX team as new processes or approaches are implemented to ensure a respectful community, and that the College community is appropriately responding to concerns of gender-based discrimination.
Please feel free to call Ryan at 208.562.3227 with any questions about Title IX. More information about Title IX at CWI can also be found at cwi.edu/current-students/title-ix-information.
