Facilities Updates—June 12, 2015
Nampa Campus Academic Building Parking Lot Closure
The north parking lot at College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Nampa Campus Academic Building will be closed June 17-28 for repair and maintenance. Work will include asphalt patching, sealcoating, and restriping of the entire parking lot. Access to the building’s east parking Lot will be maintained throughout the project. Bus service to the Academic Building bus stop will be suspended during the project. Anyone wishing to use the bus service during the project will have access to those services at the Park and Ride bus stop at Nampa Campus. Facilities Planning and Management would like to thank everyone for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience resulting from this closure.
Canyon County Center Parking Lot Replacement
CWI’s Canyon County Center parking lot is receiving an update this summer. The existing parking lot at the facility had deteriorated significantly over the last few years and an entire replacement of the parking lot was required. The State of Idaho and CWI jointly funded the project which will increase the capacity of parking available at the site by approximately 30 stalls. The project is being phased so that some parking remains available at the site at all times. ADA modifications will also be integrated into the project, increasing accessibility to the building. Completion of phase 1 of the project is anticipated to conclude by mid-July with entire project being complete for the start of the Fall 2016 semester. Thank you for your continued understanding through any inconvenience this project presents.
Math Solution Centers Construction
Space in CWI’s Nampa Campus Academic Building and Ada County Campus Pintail Center are currently being remodeled to support the College’s new Math Solution Centers. Room 116 in the Academic Building and room 1307 in the Pintail Center are being renovated to support CWI’s Math 095 course, which is the new college-level math prep course that will be introduced at CWI this fall. Each room will be outfitted with computer stations, audio/video projection equipment, break out areas, and elevated platforms to assist instruction. Construction activities will be complete before the start of the Fall 2015 semester. Watch Bert’s Alerts for more information on the new Math 095 program.
Remodel at Canyon County Center
Two classrooms are being remodeled at CWI’s Canyon County Center for use by the College’s new Law Enforcement Program. Renovation of classrooms 118 and 120 is scheduled to be complete before the start of the Fall 2015 semester. One room will be used as an exercise, tactics, and skills instruction room. The other room contains office space and an indoor simulation range. For more information on the new Law Enforcement program visit cwi.edu/program/law-enforcement.

- ‘My Toolkit’ will be accessible
The new myCWI site will be made available no later than June 30. Faculty and Staff can find more information including training documents and important dates by visiting the myCWI User Group.
Staff Honor Bestowed on Babcock
College of Western Idaho (CWI) is pleased to announce CWI’s June Staff of the Month honor has been awarded to Rick Babcock.
Babcock joined CWI in February 2010 and is currently the Operations Manager/Facilities Management Coordinator. Babcock says, “I am the person—with the help of service providers and the dedicated group of Building Specialists—that maintain the health, safety, and cleanliness of each of our buildings. I am proud to be a staff member of this department and the CWI family”.
“Serving all in an atmosphere of caring” is a Core Value Babcock demonstrates at every opportunity. As a fellow staff member mentioned; “When we moved our offices from Eagle River to Quail Court last summer, Rick was such a wonderful resource and help. The amazing thing about Rick is you can mention that you need something and he magically appears with it the next day”.
Babcock is an Idaho native, born in Burley. He has been a Nampa resident since 1973. He started out in the facilities field of work at the age of 16; working a couple summers at the Blackfoot State Hospital in their maintenance department.
Babcock has been married for 28 years to his best friend Teresa. They have three sons, two grandsons, and two granddaughters. They enjoy camping and riding through the mountain trails on four wheelers. He also enjoys home remodeling, do-it-yourself, and woodworking projects.
Please join in congratulating Rick. Thank you for your commitment and continued dedication to CWI and its faculty, staff, and students.
