CWI Offers Choices in Course Delivery
In order to better meet the needs of students and faculty, College of Western Idaho (CWI) is now offering a number of new choices related to the modality in which classes will be presented for the Fall 2020 semester.
Face-to-face, online, and hybrid classes have long been established choices for CWI students. To help accommodate the influx of students preferring online coursework at this time, online offerings for the upcoming fall semester are up 8% over previous years. With so many unknowns and changes related to COVID-19, CWI leadership determined a need for additional options in course delivery on top of those currently in place.
Provost Denise Aberle-Cannata has been working closely with the CWI Instruction team to develop the new course delivery options listed below. Department chairs will be working with faculty to implement these new modalities into their courses and communicating the options to students.
Existing Course Delivery Options:
- Traditional Online
- All content covered asynchronously online with optional synchronous support
- Traditional Face-to-Face (F2F)
- Courses/programs offered in the traditional instructional model
- Traditional Hybrid
- Reduced capacity and increased safety measures on campus with fully-online options for individuals in addition to the required online portion for all
NEW Course Delivery Options:
- HyFlex / Hyflex Hybrid
- Traditional instruction model with a twist – the HyFlex model allows students to choose if they want to attend class on campus or from their home with a requirement for students to log in during scheduled class time.
- Synchronous Online
- Traditional Online modified – the Synchronous Online course options is designed for students who learn better with real-time instruction. Students log in to class at regularly scheduled time. Instructors lead the course online in real time.
Students – please check your CWI email often, visit the Be Safe, Be Mighty webpage, and stay in contact with your instructors to ensure a successful start to fall semester. Please contact your Student Success Advisor with any questions or concerns.

Considerations and information specific to instruction can be found in the COVID-19 Operational Guidebook for Employees.
