New Name for Micron Center
College of Western Idaho (CWI) is changing the name of the Nampa Campus Micron Center for Professional Technical Education to better align itself with division title changes at the state level. The new name will be Nampa Campus Micron Education Center (NMEC). The official name change will take place at the end of October, to coincide with the release of CWI’s Spring class schedule.
The new name encompasses the variety of classes offered at the location, which is also home to One Stop and CWI’s bookstore. Signage will be updated on the building and surrounding area in early December.
Please note the name change and update material and documents as appropriate.
Annual Halloween Costume Contest
It is time for College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Annual Costume Contest! Employees are encouraged to participate by wearing costumes to work on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Participate as an individual or with a team and compete for best overall individual, best overall group, and best overall by building. Photo entries must be submitted to ceec@cwi.edu by the end of business day on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Employees will vote for the winners Nov. 6-8. Be sure to check your email and Bert’s Alerts to vote for your favorite. Winners will be announced Nov. 10!
Criminal Justice Faculty Present at Conference
College of Western Idaho (CWI) Criminal Justice instructors, Stephanie Ritchie Breach and McKenzie Wood recently presented at the Western Association of Criminal Justice Conference in Spokane, Washington. Their presentation, entitled, "Implementing a Shared Learning Experience: Barriers and Successes to Using a Popular Podcast to Connect Criminal Justice Students", chronicled their use of the popular podcast, Serial, and analyzed data related to student impact.
September 2017 Faculty of the Month – Bryan Krouse
Bryan Krouse has been named the September 2017 Faculty of the Month. Krouse grew up in Santa Barbara, California, and received a bachelor’s degree in Geography from University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned a master’s degree in Medical Geography from California State University, Northridge. Krouse began teaching at College of Western Idaho (CWI) in 2009 as an adjunct faculty. In 2016, he became the sole, full-time geography faculty. In addition to teaching geography courses, Krouse teaches a variety of geospatial technology courses (i.e., Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and GPS) and is in the process of developing a GIS Certificate program at the College. Working with CWI’s Board of Trustees, Krouse used his GIS skills to establish and map the five trustee zones. He frequently works with faculty to assist with their GIS needs. Notable projects include Dusty Perkins’s research analyzing Osprey nest locations and the ecological and human-caused factors that affect osprey breeding success and citizen science project mapping and analyzing locations of Monarch butterflies and milkweed, as well as Nikki Gorrell’s Petroglyph Recording Project at Celebration Park.
Krouse enjoys being active with his three children – Cole (6), Landen (6), and Emma (7). He likes to spend his free time running, mountain biking, Spartan racing, lifting weights, skiing, and being in the mountains.
CWI Showcase – Business, IT, and Communication Event
College of Western Idaho (CWI) will showcase Business, Information Technology (IT), and Communication programs on Nov. 2 to future students, current students, and members of the community. The CWI Ada County Campus Pintail Center will be hopping as faculty showcase their programs with help from industry.
Attendees will experience some of the great educational opportunities available at CWI and find information on financial aid, introduction to college, and more. Anyone interested in a future in the Business, IT, or Communication is encouraged to participate!
