MEDIA ADVISORY – Five College of Western Idaho (CWI) students are headed to the SkillsUSA national competition following gold medal finishes at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference last weekend (April 11-12). CWI captured 17 medals overall, thanks to seven second-place finishes and five bronze honors.
The state SkillsUSA conference welcomed over 800 high school and post-secondary students to event locations around the Treasure Valley, including CWI’s Ada County Center and Micron Center for Professional Technical Education. CWI students would make the most of familiar competition sites, winning individual medals in 14 different events.
Leading the way for CWI with gold medal finishes was Greg Tate (Architectural Drafting), Andrew Valley (CNC Turning), Kathryn Jacobsen (Computer Maintenance), Travis Kildow (Diesel Technology), and Michael Tamas (Extemporaneous Speaking).
With top honors, all five students have qualified for a trip to Kansas City, Mo., June 24-28, to compete in the 49th-annual National Leadership and Skills Conference.
