Recently, College of Western Idaho (CWI) helped install scientific weather stations at Amity Elementary School and Boise High School. Idaho National Laboratories donated the two Oregon Scientific weather stations to the CWI Treasure Valley iSTEM Library to increase student’s awareness of gathered weather data. The iSTEM library serves as a resource for public schools to access STEM lessons and materials.

Susan Evers sixth grade class at Amity Elementary and Alison Ward’s AP Environmental Science classes at Boise High are currently using the weather stations to enhance their curriculum. The station at Boise High is highlighted through a partnership with Pam Aishlin and Boise State University’s Geosciences department regarding hydrologic forecasting for agricultural needs.

To request further information regarding the Treasure Valley iSTEM library, or weather stations, please contact CWI’s Education Department Chair Kae Jensen at kaejensen@cwi.edu  or IDoTeach instructor Doug Rapley at dougrapley@cwi.edu.
