About Student Advising & Success
College can be confusing, but advisors are here to help.
WHAT IS ADVISING?
When you need help or have a question, you can turn to your advisor to get help with:
- Registration
- Degree Planning
- Graduation
- Career or Major Exploration
- Major Changes
- Transfer Options
- Campus Resources
ADVISING OPTIONS
CWI students are provided with different advising options depending on their program of study:
- All degree-seeking CWI students will be assigned an advisor based on their major within 3-5 business days of admission. Schedule an advising appointment for more information.
- Non-degree seeking students can request to be assigned to an advisor by emailing academicadvising@cwi.edu. Get help with registration by visiting any One Stop Student Services location or by calling 208.562.3000.
FIRST-SEMESTER REQUIRED ADVISING
Degree-seeking students are required* to meet with their assigned advisor in their first semester to create an academic plan.
Required advising allows students to meet with their advisor to understand:
- Academic Expectations
- Degree Requirements
- Meeting Goals
- Degree Plans (myCWI>Toolkit>Student Planning)
*Fulfilling this advising requirement during your first semester at CWI will allow you to register for classes in future semesters.
CREDIT ENROLLMENT LIMITS
- Students who want to register for more than 20 credits during a fall or spring semester will need the approval of their advisor.
- Students who want to register for more than 10 credits in the summer term will need the approval of their advisor.
