Community, creativity, and coding.
College of Western Idaho's Onramp program introduces users of all skill levels to the fundamentals of Swift coding, design, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Onramp is part of a larger initiative to address current trends in the programming industry and equipping communities with the skills and digital tools they need to help solve challenges.
Onramp at CWI
CWI is proud to partner with Boise State University, Idaho Digital Learning Alliance, and Apple's Community Education Initiative to form Onramp, and has taken on the charge to educate our local workforce in two areas of the Onramp offerings - Everyone Can Code and Everyone Can Create. For those looking to improve their understanding of Swift programming, Everyone Can Code courses provide a potential path to Swift certification. Everyone Can Create incorporates design and communications techniques into our current course offerings.
Schedule time with the Swift Programming advisor to discuss Onramp opportunities.
Everyone Can Code
CWI will offer students a series of courses in Apple’s powerful Swift programming language for macOS, iOS, watchOS, tvOS and beyond, that will prepare students for utilizing this knowledge to engage and address challenges in our community.
Swift makes it easy to write software that is incredibly fast and safe, making it one of the fastest-growing languages in history. Swift combines the best in modern language thinking with wisdom from the wider Apple engineering culture and the diverse contributions from its open-source community.
Swift is friendly to new programmers. Writing Swift code lets users experiment with code and see the results immediately, without the overhead of building and running an app.
Swift Program Classes
Students have the opportunity to take four Swift programming classes at CWI, building on one another and upon completion will be eligible for a future certificate in Swift programming. The Swift certificate can be completed independently or alongside other CWI certificate and degree programs.
NOTE: This certificate is not eligible for federal financial aid due to program length.
- CPSC 110 – Programming Fundamentals
- CPSC 131 – Swift App Development I
- CPSC 151 – Swift App Development II
- CSPS 171 – Swift App Development: Augmented Reality
Everyone Can Create
CWI is integrating Everyone Can Create into the Multimedia Storytelling, COMM 261, curriculum for students. The addition utilizes Apple’s drawing, music, video, and photo tools to help students convey information and make connections via multimedia channels to address challenges within our community.
