In the Spotlight
On Monday (Jan. 19), College of Western Idaho (CWI) collaborated with its community college counterparts to host the annual Idaho legislators’ luncheon. Each year the lunch provides a great opportunity to share the achievements of each institution while also discussing the importance of community colleges and their joint efforts to support students through equitable funding. CWI’s student body president and administration joined North Idaho College and College of Southern Idaho at The Rose Room in downtown Boise to thank legislators for their continued support of higher education, particularly that of community colleges.
News Highlights
Business Office to Host Deep Dive Training
The College of Western Idaho (CWI) Business Office would like to invite all CWI employees to the semi-annual Deep Dive presentation. This training is required for budget officers, but is open to anyone interested in attending. Please see the flyer for details on topics, dates, and locations. Anyone interested in attending one of the sessions needs to RSVP by email to briansmith2@cwi.edu.
Student Success Workshops Return for Spring
The College of Western Idaho (CWI) Career and College Transfer Center, Student Enrichment Advisors, Crisis Counselor, and Student Conduct are partnering to offer a variety of free workshops for CWI students every semester. These workshops are an opportunity for students to enhance their learning and to focus on skills that will help them succeed in college and beyond. Topics include:
• Learning Styles
• Goal Setting
• Career Exploration
• Searching for Scholarships
• Conflict Management
• Drug and Alcohol Education

Basalt Literary Magazine Seeking Student Submissions
College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) literary magazine, Basalt, is currently accepting submissions to be included in the publication’s third edition this spring. Basalt is managed by students and comprised of original works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and artwork by CWI students. Submissions will be accepted for all categories through April 3. Entries can be emailed to davenicholas@cwi.edu.
All submissions will be reviewed and considered for publication and first-place winners in each category will be awarded $100. Each issue of Basalt is available for purchase at Rediscovered Books and Hyde Park Books.
Sharing in Bert's Alerts
Each semester at College of Western Idaho (CWI) means the return of a number of wonderful activities occurring throughout the College. The Marketing and Advancement Department encourages employees to share these happenings through Bert’s Alerts. Activities may include events, recognition of employees and students, changes in processes or policies that affect employees, or simply letting peers know what is going on in departments or campus locations.
Bert’s Alerts requests can be submitted through Help Desk, by selecting “Marketing” under the Request Type drop down menu. Bert’s Alerts is distributed every Friday and the deadline for submitting content is end of day Thursday. Please direct all questions regarding Bert’s Alerts to communications@cwi.edu.
