CWI Tax Class Welcomes Guest Speaker
College of Western Idaho (CWI) students from Joe Welker’s volunteer income tax assistance class recently enjoyed a guest lecture from Randy Tilley with the Idaho State Tax Commission. Tilley, the division administrator of the Audit Division, lectured on important changes to the Idaho tax code for the 2014 tax filing season. He also lectured on frequently made mistakes and how to avoid pitfalls on the Idaho tax return.
The lecture was especially valuable as students from the class will also participate in CWI’s annual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program this spring. Starting on Jan. 26, the students will be helping file individual income tax returns from 1-3 p.m. every Monday through tax season. The free service will be available in room 201 of the Nampa Campus Academic Building.
In 2014, the tax assistance program provided nearly $40,000 in savings. Read more about last year’s program here.
Nursing Faculty is Published
College of Western Idaho (CWI) is celebrating one of its Nursing program faculty, Jen Hutchings, who was recently published in the Urologic Nursing Journal. Hutchings co-authored a research article, Student Nurse Understanding of the Psychosocial Impact of Urinary Incontinence, which appeared in the November-December 2014 issue of the journal.
January Staff of the Month Goes to Moench
College of Western Idaho (CWI) is pleased to announce CWI’s January Staff of the Month honor has been awarded to Brenda Moench.
Moench joined CWI in June 2009. She is an administrative assistant II for Professional Technical Education’s Business and Information Technology Department. Moench is also one of two building leads for the Ada County Campus Pintail Center. Prior to CWI, she spent over 15 years in administrative support with web site maintenance and basic AP responsibilities.
Moench is currently a member of the Safety Measurement Committee. She has also taken minutes for the Safety Committee and Curriculum Committee and helped out as an Interim Building Administrator for the Pintail Center.
“Serving all in an Atmosphere of Caring” is a CWI Core Value that most certainly describes Moench’s great work ethic and it shows in her positive attitude which never seems to wane. She says “almost every day at CWI I’ve witnessed colleagues overcome potential obstacles to doing what they feel is right or needed. If I’ve been able to help through encouragement or just lending a hand, that’s pretty awesome.”
Moench earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree with a focus in Technical Communication and Mediation.
Her family life includes her husband, mother, multiple brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and the ultimate blessings of grandnieces and grandnephews. She says her family has multiple cats, a dog, and various indoor and outdoor fish. She and her husband enjoy riding their ATVs, camping, and mountain drives---long and short---with family and friends. Moench says she also enjoys reading and coming up with new projects to keep the hubby busy while entertaining their cats.
Please join in congratulating Brenda. Thank you for your commitment and continued dedication to CWI and its faculty, staff, and students.
