College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter, Beta Sigma Pi Honor Society, inducted 24 new members on Saturday, April 11, bringing another group of student leaders into the College’s honor society community.
The ceremony at the Nampa Campus Academic Building (NCAB) brought together inductees and their families to mark the occasion and welcome students into the chapter. Speakers throughout the event focused on leadership, service, and the opportunities available through Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for community college students.
College Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Denise Aberle-Cannnata, opened the ceremony with a welcome message, encouraging students to use their membership as a chance to grow and make a meaningful impact at CWI and beyond.
Former PTK officer and current CWI Bachelor of Applied Science Business Administration student, Breanna Upchurch, also addressed the group, sharing how involvement in the chapter shaped her own college experience. She encouraged new members to take part in chapter events and make the most of the connections and opportunities available to them.
The chapter’s 2025-2026 officer team, Will Soltau, Jasmine Cortez, and Brynlee Buchmiller, then led students through the induction process and formally welcomed them into the PTK community.
PTK recognizes high-achieving students at two-year colleges and creates opportunities for them to build skills beyond the classroom. Through campus chapters like Beta Sigma Pi, students can take part in service projects, leadership roles, and activities that connect them to their college community.
The newly inducted members will join current chapter members for one more event this academic year, partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive on Friday, May 2. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in room 116 of the Nampa Campus Health and Science Building (NCHS), and community members are invited to participate.
PTK’s mission is to recognize the academic achievements of college students and help them grow as scholars and leaders. The organization includes more than 1,300 chapters and 3.25 million members worldwide, placing CWI’s Beta Sigma Pi chapter within a wide network of students and alumni committed to excellence and service.
