The competition came down to the final shot as College of Western Idaho (CWI) students battled for the first Otter Cup Soccer Championship on Friday, Oct. 23, during CWI Week.
After an exciting inaugural intramural soccer season, first-place Overtime FC faced second-place Hemm FC in the championship match. Both teams brought their best to the field, battling to a 3-3 tie that sent the game into double overtime and eventually a penalty shootout.
With the championship on the line, Overtime FC stepped up first, successfully making all three of its penalty kicks. Hemm FC answered with two successful shots, but Overtime FC's goalkeeper made a game-winning save on the final attempt, securing a 4-3 shootout victory and the first Otter Cup title.
Overtime FC players celebrated their championship win and received commemorative T-shirts.
The championship marked the conclusion of CWI's first intramural soccer season, which featured four teams competing for a spot in the final match. Overtime FC and Hemm FC earned the top two spots following round-robin play, while Otters FA finished third and Otter Pops placed fourth.
Beyond the competition, intramural soccer gave students an opportunity to stay active, build friendships and connect with the CWI community outside the classroom.
Congratulations to Overtime FC on becoming the first Otter Cup champions and to all four teams for making the inaugural season a success!
