College of Western Idaho (CWI) took over Idaho Central Arena in a BOLD way Wednesday night during CWI Night at the Steelheads! With nearly 500 CWI group tickets sold, students, employees, family, friends, and the community came together raising nearly $2,500 for student scholarships, far exceeding funds raised during past CWI Night events.
The CWI Enrollment team shared the message of CWI handing out swag, interacting with fans, riding the Zamboni, and dancing with Steelhead’s mascot, Blue.
“It was an exciting and fun evening being able to socialize with future and current students,” said Latinx Student Services Coordinator, Bibiana Ramirez. “The Enrollment team was thrilled to be able to share the love and enthusiasm we have for CWI with those in attendance.”
Congratulations to Sydney Shoemake and Daniel Lam, this year’s SCORE Big Scholarship winners. Shoemake, a senior at Rocky Mountain High School, plans to attend CWI this fall to major in Occupational Therapy. Lam is a current student studying Mechatronics. President Jones, representatives from the CWI Foundation, and College leadership, presented each with a $2,000 scholarship on the ice.
“Last night was an incredible experience,” said Shoemake. “It was amazing getting to meet everyone and standing on the ice with a big check! When I first saw that the check was written for $2,000, I thought it was a mistake. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to tell my parents! When it really hit me that I had just received $2,000 to pay for my education at CWI, I was almost in tears! I am so grateful for this opportunity.”
“I was very grateful and humbled to be part of CWI night at the Steelheads and to be one of the scholarship recipients,” said Lam. “I am truly enjoying what I'm learning in the Mechatronics program, and receiving this scholarship makes it even more rewarding!”
Plan to join us this summer for CWI Night at the Boise Hawks June 16. Stay tuned for details!
