Patriotic Tribute Brings 300 Flags Back to CWI

Published: November 2, 2015

For the third consecutive year, College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Nampa Campus will be home to a powerful patriotic display with the return of the CWI Patriot Range. Wednesday (Nov. 4) evening the CWI Veterans Association and Student Enrichment Department will cover the west lawn of the Nampa Campus Academic Building with 300 American flags. Once again this year, the Eagle Field of Honor has generously donated the flags.

The Patriot Range provides an incredible visual display with flags that are three by five feet in dimension and stand on eight foot poles, and are precisely constructed to ensure equal distance between each flag and row. The field is lit at night and this year will be open Nov. 5-12. The public is invited and encouraged to visit this powerful tribute.

“The Eagle Field of Honor committee is dedicated to helping as many veterans as possible,” says Eagle Field of Honor Project Chair, Kathy Coburn. “The CWI Veterans Association Patriot Range allows us to reach hundreds of veterans through this great partnership. It is an honor and a privilege to pay tribute to our veterans and this is another great opportunity to do that.”

The Patriot Range will also provide a breathtaking background for CWI’s Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Student Enrichment will be presenting activities at 1 p.m. at the CWI Nampa Campus Academic Building, which will feature a student speaker, student choir, guest speaker, refreshments, and more.

About the Eagle Field of Honor:
In 2007, Eagle Mayor, Nancy Merrill, presented the idea of hosting a Field of Honor in Eagle, Idaho. The inaugural event included 800 U.S. flags, set in perfect rows on a field of green. Each flag has a yellow ribbon with the name of a veteran or currently serving military personnel. The flags represent all veterans and those who are currently serving. They fly to remind our veterans that we remember their sacrifices and bravery and they will never be forgotten. The Field of Honor also serves as a “Thank You” to all of our military families as they serve in their own ways and make huge sacrifices as well. The Eagle Field of Honor holds their opening ceremony each year on Armed Forces Day in May. The flags fly 24 hours a day through Memorial Day. All of the proceeds from the event go to veteran’s organizations. More information can be found about www.eaglefieldofhonor.org
