For the third consecutive year, CWI students presented at the College of Idaho’s annual Undergraduate Research Symposium held April 27. Alycia Dickman and Ryan Summers presented their work with the Idaho Freshwater Mollusk Project – a collaborative effort between CWI, universities, the private sector, and state and federal government agencies. The project is coordinated and directed by Steve Lysne, CWI Assistant Professor of Biology.
Dickman, who is working toward a neurobiology degree, presented her review of the freshwater molluscan family Ancylidae. Summers, a Biology Natural Resources major, presented on the distribution and relative abundance of mollusks collected in eastern Idaho in 2012. Both students answered questions from symposium participants and did CWI proud with their scholarly work and professional presence. In addition, nearly 30 CWI biology students attended the symposium to support their colleagues and experience a scientific symposium first-hand. Dr. Sara Heggland, Associate Professor of Biology at the College of Idaho, praised the students and the support that CWI has given them in pursuit of their scientific training.
