Over the last three semesters, College of Western Idaho (CWI) tutors have supported 2,100 students enrolled in nearly 250 subjects.
That support comes from CWI Tutoring Services, a team of about 100 part-time tutors, many of whom are CWI students themselves. As trained peer tutors, they help students work through course material, prepare for exams, organize notes, develop study plans and strengthen learning strategies.
CWI will recognize their work during National Tutor Appreciation Week, Oct. 5 – 9. The annual recognition began more than 15 years ago through the National Tutoring Association as a way to recognize tutors at colleges and universities across the country.
Students, faculty and staff can join the celebration by leaving a comment or compliment for CWI tutors on the Tutor Appreciation Padlet. The board is open now, and messages will be shared with tutors during Tutor Appreciation Week.
Tutoring Services, part of CWI’s Learning Commons, provides free academic support to currently enrolled students. Students can connect with tutors through drop-in tutoring, scheduled appointments, online tutoring, study groups and workshops.
Tutors support students across CWI’s Schools and a wide range of subjects, including arts and humanities, health, social sciences, mathematics, science, technology, and career and technical programs. Mentor Tutors also work with students to develop study skills and strategies that support their coursework.
For CWI students who serve as tutors, the experience can also strengthen their understanding of course material while developing skills in communication, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving.
