College of Western Idaho (CWI) offers more than 20 Associate of Art and Science majors and 30 hands-on associate degree and technical certificate tracks to choose from. Whatever your plans, you will be well prepared at CWI. We will help you get ready to meet your career goals and progress toward the certificate or degree of your choice, regardless of prior educational experience.

Steps for New Students - Degree Seeking

We accept applications year round, however admission deadlines and program deadlines change each semester. Please refer to the academic calendar for admission deadlines and individual Career and Technical Education program pages (ie. information technology and health fields) for special admission deadlines.

Note:

You only need to complete and submit the application for admission one time to apply at CWI. This applies to all Associate Degrees and Career and Technical Degrees/Certificates. If you have applied before, the application will recognize your information and direct you to the Returning Student section. The information you provide will be used to determine Residency for tuition purposes. If you have questions about what program best fits you, please call 208.562.3000 to set up an appointment with an Enrollment Counselor.

 

  • 2. Apply for Financial Aid

    You may qualify for financial assistance. Apply for financial aid online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. FAFSA School Code - 042118

  • 3. Turn in Admission Items

    • 17 years and older
      • Submit one of the following:
      1. An official* high school or home school transcript. Current high school and home school students can submit an official 6th or 7th semester transcript but will need to submit a final transcript after graduation.
      2. An official GED transcript showing passing scores
        1. If you took your GED in Idaho, please order your transcript from GED.com.
      3. Official college transcripts showing an Associate’s degree or higher**
        1. All international post-secondary documents must go through an evaluation service approved by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES).  Students need to provide the official credential evaluation in addition to the official transcripts.  In order for an evaluation to be considered official, it must come to us directly from the evaluation service.  CWI recommends these evaluators.
      • Submit recent (within three years of the first day of class) ACT test scores, SAT test scores, or the Math Diagnostic and Write Class Placement.***

    *Transcripts brought in person must be in the original, sealed envelope from the institution. Opened transcripts will be considered unofficial.

    **Transfer students who have not received a college degree from a regionally accredited institution will need to submit an official high school or GED transcripts. CWI will accept faxed high school or GED transcripts as official if they are faxed directly from the institution at which they were completed to 1.888.562.3216 with a cover letter on letterhead, marked "official" clearly on the transcript, and that have an official school signature/stamp on the transcript. Transcripts from colleges within the state of Idaho and TVCC may also be accepted in this manner as official. Transfer students who have received a college degree must also submit a final high school or GED transcripts if chosen for financial aid verification.

    ***Test scores are used to place students in appropriate coursework and are required for admission. To send ACT scores to CWI, please use ACT college code 0932. Visit Assessment and Testing for information on placement testing 

     

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATES WHO WILL BE YOUNGER THAN 17 ON THE DAY THEY START CLASSES AT CWI:

    CWI welcomes underage students graduating early from accredited high school and homeschool programs. For degree-seeking admissions, students must:

    *Students under age 16 will be considered for admission on a case by case basis. In addition to the requirements above, students must submit a letter from a parent or guardian describing the request for an exception to admission requirements.

     

  • 4. Complete New Student Orientation (NSO)

    STEP ONE

    Setup your student account by visiting logonhelp.cwi.edu and using your newly issued username and default password.

    STEP TWO

    If you are seeking a degree you must also attend new student orientation. New Student Orientation will provide:

    • Tips on being successful in college
    • Important catalog information
    • Information on classes, financial aid, and transfer options
    • Advice on how to register on myCWI

  • 5. Purchase Books

    Books can be purchased at the CWI Nampa Campus or online through the Bookstore.

  • 6. Pay Tuition

    You can pay tuition with cash, credit card, payment plan, sponsor payment, or financial aid.

    • Online: Pay online by check, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover by logging into myCWI
    • Mail: Make your check payable to: College of Western Idaho. Write your student identification number on the bottom left of the check, and mail it to:

    • In Person: Come see us in person at any One Stop Student Services location or call us at 208.562.3000 with your credit card information.

Additional Requirements

High School transcripts with six or more semesters of posted grades will be accepted, but final high school transcripts showing graduation are still required.
