CWI Partners on Boise Archeology Project
Six students from the College of Western Idaho (CWI) are experiencing a historic opportunity this summer as participants in the River Street Public Archaeology Project in Boise. The College has partnered with University of Idaho and University of Arizona (UA) to allow CWI students to earn a one credit internship through the project. The archaeological field school is taking place at the Erma Hayman House in Boise’s River Street neighborhood through July 3.
CWI Represented at Military Event
In May, College of Western Idaho (CWI) was invited by the Department of Defense Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Committee to attend an exclusive event that recognizes Idaho employers for their support of the National Guard and Reserves. CWI was selected for a number of reasons to attend the 2015 Statewide BOSSLIFT event, held May 14-15, at Gowen Field. In addition to hiring military personnel, CWI students have also participated in Internship opportunities at Gowen Field.
Gloria Keulman, administrative assistant for CWI’s School of Social Sciences and Public Affairs, participated on behalf of the College. The event provided an opportunity to learn what the National Guard and Reserves do when they are on duty and the rigorous training and technology they use in preparation to protect and defend the United States. Attendees experienced multiple training simulators, operated various military hardware and equipment, and were able to fly in a Blackhawk helicopter over Boise.
The first day’s activities culminated with a flag ceremony and an evening award dinner acknowledging the National Guards and Reserves and thanking employers who support their activities. The second day ended with a ceremony honoring the cities of Boise and Meridian with nose art on two A-10 Thunderbolt Two airplanes. Boise Mayor, Dave Bieter, and Meridian Mayor, Tammy de Weerd, helped unveil the “Pride of Boise” and “Pride of Meridian” artwork on the airplanes.

Staff Honor Bestowed on Babcock
College of Western Idaho (CWI) is pleased to announce CWI’s June Staff of the Month honor has been awarded to Rick Babcock.
Babcock joined CWI in February 2010 and is currently the Operations Manager/Facilities Management Coordinator. Babcock says, “I am the person—with the help of service providers and the dedicated group of Building Specialists—that maintain the health, safety, and cleanliness of each of our buildings. I am proud to be a staff member of this department and the CWI family”.
“Serving all in an atmosphere of caring” is a Core Value Babcock demonstrates at every opportunity. As a fellow staff member mentioned; “When we moved our offices from Eagle River to Quail Court last summer, Rick was such a wonderful resource and help. The amazing thing about Rick is you can mention that you need something and he magically appears with it the next day”.
Babcock is an Idaho native, born in Burley. He has been a Nampa resident since 1973. He started out in the facilities field of work at the age of 16; working a couple summers at the Blackfoot State Hospital in their maintenance department.
Babcock has been married for 28 years to his best friend Teresa. They have three sons, two grandsons, and two granddaughters. They enjoy camping and riding through the mountain trails on four wheelers. He also enjoys home remodeling, do-it-yourself, and woodworking projects.
Please join in congratulating Rick. Thank you for your commitment and continued dedication to CWI and its faculty, staff, and students.
