Norco, St. Luke's Invest in Idaho's Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals

Published: July 21, 2026

More Idaho students will have opportunities to prepare for high-demand healthcare careers thanks to support from community and industry partners. Funding from Norco, St. Luke's Health System, and an anonymous donor will strengthen healthcare education at College of Western Idaho (CWI) and help prepare more students to meet Idaho's growing demand for healthcare professionals.

In recognition of Norco's commitment to healthcare education and student success, CWI's Nampa Campus Health and Science Building (NCHS) will be named the Nampa Campus Norco Health and Science Building.

As Idaho's population continues to grow, so does the need for nurses, allied health professionals, and other skilled caregivers. CWI prepares students for these in-demand careers through programs including Certified Nursing Assistant Preparation, Dental Assisting, Medical Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Practical Nursing, Registered Nursing, Surgical Technology, and Surgical First Assistant.

“This partnership represents the very best of what can happen when education and industry come together around a shared vision,” said Gordon Jones, President of CWI. “Norco and St. Luke’s understand that supporting students today is an investment in the health, prosperity, and vitality of our communities tomorrow.”

Norco’s investment reflects its broad commitment to workforce development across many of CWI’s academic programs. In addition to its longstanding role in healthcare services and medical equipment, Norco supports industries that align with CWI programs in areas such as HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology, and other technical careers essential to Idaho’s economy.

“Norco has been part of this community for generations, and we are committed to being here for generations to come,” CEO Nicole Kissler said. “Investing in the education and career pathways of Idaho students is not only a smart business decision—it’s an investment in the future of our children, our grandchildren, and the communities we proudly serve. We are strong supporters of healthcare education as well as the many essential programs that build Idaho’s workforce, from welding to construction to advanced manufacturing, too many to list, and the other numerous skilled trades and technical work being trained and taught. We are grateful to be part of this development and deeply value the work CWI is doing to strengthen opportunities across our state.”

For nearly two decades, St. Luke’s has served as a partner in CWI’s healthcare education programs. Students gain valuable hands-on experience through clinical placements and experiential learning opportunities, while graduates frequently begin their careers serving patients and communities within their organization. This collaboration helps ensure CWI's programs continue to align with industry standards and the evolving needs of healthcare providers.

At St. Luke’s, we know a strong healthcare workforce starts with accessible, high-quality education and meaningful hands-on experience,” said Elizabeth Steger, St. Luke's Senior Vice President of Clinical Practice Integration and Chief Nursing Executive. “Our partnership with CWI and community leaders reflects our shared commitment to expanding education opportunities for students and preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals to care for our communities."

By bringing together healthcare providers, industry leaders, and higher education, this investment expands opportunities for students while helping meet the region’s increasing need for qualified healthcare professionals and skilled workers.
