College of Western Idaho (CWI) is pleased to announce a renewed grant from the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation, reaffirming the College’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities and preparing students for high-demand careers that strengthen Idaho's economy.
Now in its second year of support, the grant will help advance CWI's mission by investing in workforce development expansion in Idaho, preparing students for careers where employers across the Treasure Valley have an urgent need for skilled professionals. This year's funding will support CWI's Welding and Metals Fabrication, Surgical Technology, and the future Dental Hygiene program, helping students gain the education and hands-on training needed to enter essential healthcare and skilled trades careers.
The grant also supports CWI's Professional and Customized Training, which partners directly with Treasure Valley employers to deliver customized workforce training. Designed to meet businesses where they are, these flexible programs help employees strengthen technical, communication, and leadership skills while addressing critical workforce challenges such as technology adoption, workplace safety, and employee retention. Together with CWI's academic programs, Professional and Customized Training ensures both current and future workers are equipped with the skills employers need to grow Idaho's economy.

The support from the foundation aligns with CWI's commitment to preparing graduates for meaningful careers close to home. Approximately 98% of CWI students remain in Idaho after completing their education, contributing to local businesses, healthcare organizations, manufacturers, and communities throughout the state.
