Putting His Skills to Work

JACOB SCHOTT

Hometown:
Cascade, Idaho

Major: Advanced Mechatronics Engineering Technology

Graduation: 2022

Scholarships: Nagel Foundation

Jacob, an Advanced Mechatronics Engineering Technology student, came to College of Western Idaho (CWI) to pursue his passion for electronics.

“From building my own electric skateboard to working on computers and my car, I have always loved electronics,” Jacob said. “While touring Idaho Power, CWI’s Mechatronics program came highly recommended for pursuit of a career in the electronics industry. I am in my second semester of classes, and have to say, this is the first time I have actually enjoyed going to school and learning new things!”

Growing partnerships at CWI with business and industry in the Treasure Valley provide students like Jacob opportunities to put the skills they are learning to work.

Pathways7, an information systems consulting firm in Boise, presented in one of my classes. I ended up landing a paid internship with them and am currently working as a technical marketer while training to be a sales engineer. My education has prepared me to install planned and predictive maintenance solutions for manufacturers and their suppliers. I have learned more than I ever thought, and look forward to working for Pathways7 full-time when I graduate this spring.”

Jacob is the proud recipient of a $3,500 Nagel Foundation scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic year which he said is helping in more ways than one.

“For a single guy living on his own and attending college full-time, I don’t have a lot of time to work. Thanks to the Nagel Foundation, I was able to start an internship and pursue a career that not only involves mechatronics but also my growing interest in business. I am very blessed to have received this scholarship and certainly encourage any student to take the time and apply for scholarships. In the end, you won’t get what you don’t apply for!”

Scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year open in January.
