Ortiz Dominguez Named August Staff of the Month

Published: October 8, 2021

Congratulations to Elizabeth Ortiz Dominguez, College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Staff of the Month for August 2021. Ortiz Dominguez is an Enrollment and Graduation Evaluator in the Registrar’s Office and has been with the College for more than a decade.

Her passion for higher education began as a student at Boise State University where she earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in both General Business and Human Resource Management.

“As a student at Boise State, I spent several years as a work study for different areas of the University,” she said. “I knew after graduation I wanted to find a career in higher education so I could use the skills and knowledge I had gained in this capacity.”

Drawn to CWI as it was a newer college at the time, Ortiz Dominguez was hired as a Financial Aid Specialist shortly after her graduation from Boise State.

“When I first started here in 2011, the Call Center and Assessment Center were located in the Administration Building and in the same suite as Financial Aid. I remember having to be quiet so we would not make too much noise for students who were testing. A lot has changed since then!”

In her current position as an Enrollment and Graduation Evaluator, her time is spent assisting students. From registration to academic appeals and requirements to major changes and graduation applications, Ortiz Dominguez is part of many important steps of their academic journey.

“I enjoy helping students and seeing them succeed! I also have the best coworkers. I feel like we are all a big family here supporting each other, laughing together, and creating memorable moments. Because of CWI, I have developed great friendships which have helped me grow professionally.”

“Elizabeth exemplifies the meaning of teamwork and customer service,” said One Stop Specialist, Rowdy Fisher. “She goes above and beyond for students and team members, anticipating what they need and addressing issues before they occur. I have the privilege of working with Elizabeth in-person, daily. I have seen first-hand how she always makes time to address questions fully so individuals leave the conversation with a better understanding. She is always willing to help even if it means pointing others in the right direction when she is unable assist directly. Her kindness and caring for others shines in each interaction I have with her. She is a perfect example of what it is to be recognized as staff of the month. Thank you for all your outstanding work!”

An Idaho Native, Ortiz Dominguez grew up in Glenns Ferry where she went to school in the same building from preschool through graduation. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and being outdoors.

“I am always looking for recommendations on places to visit here in Idaho. Our state has so many hidden treasures!”
