Seven College of Western Idaho (CWI) faculty members now hold the faculty rank title of full Professor. This inaugural group are the first at the College to earn this promotion. Like most colleges and universities, four full-time faculty ranks exist at CWI including Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor.
“These seven professors represent academic and technical excellence at the highest level as they serve as leaders and mentors among their faculty peers,” commented Justin Vance, Dean of Arts and Humanities.
In addition to demonstrating excellence in teaching, institutional engagement, and professional development, faculty members must be recommended for promotion. Prior to applying for Associate Professor, faculty must teach for three years at the College as an Instructor, four years as an Assistant Professor before applying for an Associate Professor, and five years as an Associate Professor before applying for a Professor. As the College is just over a decade old, this year marked the first where faculty were eligible to apply for Professor rank. This new rank is effective with the start of the 2021-2022 academic year.
Congratulations to CWI’s first seven Professors:
- Andrea Ascuena, Professor of English
- Charles Dickenson, Professor of Sociology
- Christian Purvis-Aldrich, Professor of English
- Heather Schoenherr, Professor of Psychology
- Susan Aydelotte, Professor of Mathematics
- Linda Otto, Professor of Cybersecurity
- Reginald Jayne, Professor of History
"I want to congratulate the first CWI faculty members on achieving the rank of Professor," said Provost and Interim President, Denise Aberle-Cannata.
