Freedman Named Staff of the Month for May

Published: July 6, 2022

Congratulations to Enrollment Counselor, Becca Freedman, College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Staff of the Month for May 2022. Beginning her journey at CWI as a work study overseeing campus tours, Freedman was hired full-time in 2020.

“I was drawn to CWI because the staff was passionate about what CWI offered, she said. “They were willing to jump to help me get started and find the needed resources. I wanted to work here because I knew I could do that for others. I stand behind CWI and what we do for students, and I love sharing that message with others!”

Freedman graduated from CWI with an associate degree in Communication in 2020 and is currently finishing up her bachelor’s degree in Family Consumer Science at Idaho State University. She plans to eventually return to CWI to take three additional classes to add a degree in Media Arts to her list of accomplishments.

As an Enrollment Counselor, Freedman’s responsibilities include recruitment and outreach efforts in local high schools and the community; coordinating, guiding, and training others for tours; and advising and running the College’s Presidential Ambassadors program. The opportunity she has to be a part of students’ journeys is, in her opinion, the best part of her job.

“I recently met with a student working through the admissions process. She had no idea where to start or how to pay for school. Her fear and frustration were apparent. By the end of our conversation, she felt confident about what to do next. The best part is she applied for several scholarships to help her get through school debt-free. It was rewarding to watch her uncertainty turn into confidence as her excitement grew knowing I had a part in her story.”

“Becca works hard to help students feel welcome and excited to attend CWI,” said CWI student, Jaime Christensen. “She is full of energy and brings life and light everywhere she goes. I had the opportunity to work closely with her as a work study and felt she truly cared for me and my opinion. I loved working with her and seeing how positively she interacts with students while giving tours, visiting high schools, and answering questions. She is full of potential to bring CWI to new heights.”

An Idaho native, Freedman is the youngest of six children. Now married, she and her husband hope to start a family in the next few years. Outside of work, she loves being on stage and performing in and watching musical theater productions. She also coaches basketball and volleyball and enjoys running.

“Because of CWI, I have a husband, a degree, and a job! On a more serious note, because of CWI I am the person I am today. CWI has changed the trajectory of my life in the best way possible. Ask me about it sometime if you have a few minutes!”
