From building network cables to solving cybersecurity challenges, nine students explored the world of technology during College of Western Idaho's (CWI) Tech Quest Summer Camp June 8-12 at the Ada County Center Pintail Building (APIN), hosted by the College’s Cybersecurity and Computer Science programs.
Designed for elementary through high school students, the camp introduced participants to technology, networking, and cybersecurity through hands-on learning experiences. Students programmed Bolt Balls, built and tested network cables, participated in cybersecurity trivia, explored game development activities, and learned cybersecurity fundamentals through interactive exercises.
One of the week's highlights was a cybersecurity escape room hosted in partnership with Boise State University. Students worked together to solve technology-focused challenges while applying critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
Networking activities were especially popular. Campers received cable-making kits and supplies to continue practicing what they learned after the camp ended.
Throughout the week, students developed technical skills while strengthening teamwork, communication, and confidence. Daily activities, games, snacks, and prizes helped create an engaging environment that encouraged students to ask questions, explore new concepts, and collaborate with their peers.
The camp concluded with a recognition ceremony, where students received certificates of completion and celebrated their achievements with root beer floats. The experience introduced participants to technology concepts and careers they can continue exploring in school and beyond.
