Navegando Peer Mentoring Program

Enrich your educational experience by participating in College of Western Idaho's (CWI) Navegando Peer Mentoring Program. Connecting returning students with first-year students, the Navegando Peer Mentoring Program provides academic support, opportunities for cultural exploration, and social connections for Hispanic students at the College.

Any first-year Hispanic students interested in participating in the program will be assigned a Navegando Mentor and are encouraged to participate in Student Engagement events.  

    Navegando Mentors

    Navegando Mentors assist new students by:

    • Creating a welcoming and informative environment.
    • Assisting in the transition to college by helping students learn about campus and the CWI community.
    • Serving as resources for students for information on academic policies and programs, social organizations, campus life, and curricular/co-curricular activities.
    • Modeling creative, intellectual inquiry.
    • Serving as academic and social role models.
    • Exploring the rich arrays of opportunities at CWI.
    • Utilizing CWI campus resources.
    • Promoting Student Engagement events, programming, and services.

    Eligibility

    Students interested in applying to be a Navegando Mentor must:

    • Be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits in the fall semester and six (6) credits in the spring semester.
    • Have a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
    • Be degree seeking and have one (1) year at CWI completed, CTE Programs welcome (pending schedule ability).
    • Identify as Hispanic or be interested in learning about the Hispanic Culture.

    Expectations

    As a Navegando Mentor, you will be responsible to:

    • Attend Navegando Mentor Orientation in the summer.
    • Complete mentee log the week before an event and the week after an event.

    Students selected as Navegando Mentors will receive a $1,000 scholarship for their first year!
