College of Western Idaho (CWI) hosts a multitude of programs, classes, and clubs to help students amplify their potential. For those wanting to elevate their academic journey, the Honors program provides a unique avenue for maximizing educational experiences, becoming classroom and community leaders, and preparing students for future careers. Additionally, students have the opportunity to receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Applications are currently being accepted for the Fall 2024 semester. Incoming or first semester students enrolled full time (12 credits) are eligible. The Honors Program helps classmates and students connect with others who share similar, high-achieving goals; learn from distinguished faculty in specifically designed honors classes; and gain automatic acceptance into honors programs at Boise State University, Idaho State University, University of Idaho, or The College of Idaho upon transferring.
Alex Duran shares the value they find in being a part of the honors program. "Because of CWI, I feel more confident in my future. The College has empowered me to take control of my education and make decisions that are right for me,” said Duran. Enrolled in the Business program at CWI and focusing on accounting, Duran’s goal is to obtain a CPA and work as a managerial accountant. Ultimately, Duran hopes to establish both an accounting firm and dance studio.
“Instructors like Honors Program Coordinator, Michal Yadlin, and Accounting Professor, Joe Welker, have made lasting impressions on my education, providing valuable support and guidance,” said Duran.
“We're delighted to welcome a diverse group of students into the Honors Program cohort and are excited to walk alongside them as they develop into life-long learners, both in and outside of the classroom,” said Honors Program Coordinator, Michal Yadlin. “We look forward to them working to achieve their program degrees along with the opportunity to hone the skills that are vital in becoming active and curious global citizens.”
“Getting to know all of the honors students has been the most memorable experience during my time here at CWI,” said Emily Warfield, who is also part of the Honors Program. “Each one of us are so unique and quirky. It has always made my heart smile.”
This two-year program is open to academic transfer, career technical education, and continuing dual credit students. Honors Program students can expect to complete specific degree requirements as well as honors-designated courses, culminating in the creation and presentation of a project related to their chosen major.
Honors Program students also enjoy a dedicated advisor and smaller classes led by faculty specifically designed for honors students.
