Idaho Archaeological Society Annual Conference Comes to CWI

Published: September 10, 2026

College of Western Idaho (CWI) will welcome students, professionals, and members of the public from across the state for the 52nd Idaho Archaeological Society Annual Conference on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Nampa Campus Academic Building (NCAB).

CWI is co-sponsoring this year’s conference, which will bring together members of Idaho’s archaeological community to share research, discuss developments in the field, and build connections among students and professionals.

CWI Associate Professor of Anthropology, Nikki Gorrell, will serve as host and facilitator for the conference. Anthropology Adjunct Faculty, Jake Fruhlinger, will participate in the Indigenizing Archaeology Panel, a new addition to this year’s conference.

Held for the first time, the Indigenizing Archaeology Panel will feature representatives from the Duck Valley, Fort Hall, and Burns Paiute Tribes. Panelists will discuss best practices for archaeology conducted in collaboration with state and federal agencies, private consultation firms, and tribal communities.

CWI Anthropology students will also be among those participating in the conference and will present a poster showcasing their work to attendees.

“Hosting a free conference for a statewide organization provides opportunities for CWI students to network with professionals, learn about updates in the field, and enhance their career goals,” Gorrell said.

CWI’s role as host also recognizes the College’s place within Idaho’s archaeology and anthropology education community alongside state universities that have hosted the conference in previous years.

The conference is free and open to students, professionals in the field, and the public.
