Grants & Scholarships

You are here

The United States Government, through the Department of Education, has made funds available for several federal grant programs. Federal grants are awarded to students with financial need. All students are urged to apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is used to determine a student’s need and eligibility for financial aid, including grants.

Scholarships are a type of aid to help students pay for their education and are typically offered via the state, College of Western Idaho (CWI), the CWI Foundation, or outside sources. Like grants, scholarships do not have to be repaid. Awards are available for students based on a variety of criteria including, but limited to: particular fields of study, members of underrepresented groups, residency in certain areas, demonstrated financial need, and/or other factors.

The CWI scholarship application for the 2023-2024 Academic Year opens in March.

CWI Scholarships

Most of College of Western Idaho's (CWI) scholarships are administered by the CWI Foundation. When you start the scholarship application process online, you will be able to apply for CWI Foundation, institutional, and external scholarships from one platform. We suggest completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) in order to be considered for scholarships that include financial need in their criteria.
