Automotive Technology Student Requirements

Students entering the Automotive Technology program at College of Western Idaho (CWI) must fulfill the following requirements prior to beginning and as part of their training throughout the program.

10419 Class Times & Location

Automotive Technology classes are held at the Nampa Campus Micron Education Center (NMEC). 

  • Day Session
    Monday – Thursday
    7 a.m. – Noon

  • Evening Session
    Monday – Thursday
    5:30 – 10:30 p.m.

Ordering Deadlines

  • Spring start: Dec. 15
  • Fall start: July 15 

Uniform Requirements

Automotive Technology students are required to order the following uniform items prior to the first day of class. Uniforms must be worn daily throughout the program. 

  • (3) Automotive Technology uniform shirts (2 short sleeve, 1 long sleeve)
  • (2) Work pants 
  • (1) Mechanics leather belt

Uniform tops, work pants, and a belt are purchased from the CWI Bookstore and cost approximately $355 which is paid for by the program through special course fees. Once ordered, students will be notified when their order arrives.  

    Additional Items

    • Leather, slip-resistant work boots ($45 – $350)

    Additional shirts, pants, belts, and work boots may be purchased as desired.

    • Safety Glasses ($11.50)
      • ANSI-Z87 approved
      • Clear lenses, no tint
      • Glasses may be purchased from Career Uniforms.
    • Tool Set
      • $6,300 – Tools are paid for by the program through special course fees.
      • Students will receive tools at the start of their first semester. 
    • Online Cengage Unlimited Subscription
      • $316.58 – Classes utilize IncludED which is paid as part of tuition and fees. 
    10419 Licensing & Screening
    • Current driver’s license
    • Current auto insurance

    Drug Screening 

    Students are required to complete a drug screening on a weekday (Monday through Friday) of the week before classes begin.

    10419 Program Orientation

    Prior to registering for major-specific classes, admitted students must participate in a program orientation covering program expectations and requirements.
