Steve Christenson just moved from the administrative to the academia side of the industry in December of 2023. He has been in the Information Technology field since 1989. He has previously worked with many companies, including Packard Bell and Megahertz doing various support, testing, and engineering duties. Other positions have been in management and Higher Education. Most recently he was a Network Engineer for UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Steve has obtained many certifications over his career in the IT field covering both hardware and software. The companies he has obtained these from include, Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, Citrix, Fujitsu, HP, and Epson.

Steve has also had an exciting background living in Brazil and Mexico while growing up. Both Portuguese and Spanish were languages that were learned proficiently, although they are currently a little rusty due to a lack of opportunities to use them.

After getting married young to his best friend, Wendy, and while raising 4 boys, while trying to make ends meet, he joined the Army National Guard and later moved to the Reserves. Joining in 1991 just before “Desert Storm” and being Honorably Discharged in 2002. During this time, he was able to obtain a more stable role at the City of Rexburg and at 32 went back to school to finally finish his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. It took 2 schools and 10 years of working full time and going to night school to finish. He first went to the University of Idaho, and then graduated from BYU-Idaho.

Steve’s history, background, and desire to help others obtain the education they need to be successful in the IT industry is what led him to seek a position as an educator. He is excited to be at CWI in this new role as an instructor in the Cybersecurity program. He is interested in helping his students be successful, not only in their classroom studies, but with their life as well.
