Hello! My name is Joni Carlo. I am the recipient of a Master's degree in Communication, with an emphasis on the existentialist philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche's theory of language, a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, a year of PhD course work in Psychology, a certification in Somatic Experiencing Trauma Resolution Therapy, am a certified 200 hour trauma-informed yoga instructor, am currently taking courses toward a master's of science degree in Forensic Psychology and have my own business.
I have been teaching at the collegiate level for over 15 years, starting as a graduate student at Boise State and then staying on with BSU for the next 12 years. I began teaching at CWI in 2012, shortly after the college was opened. I left academia in 2015 to pursue other interests, i.e., art, writing and publishing my book, traveling around the country, etc., and came back to teaching Fall semester, 2023.
In addition to all of the above, I am from San Francisco, CA and have an extensive performance/theater/dance background and I use knowledge from these disciplines to bring fun and games, yes, you read that right - GAMES - into the classroom. School should never be boring. My classes are interactive. Always. I will not stand up in front and powerpoint you to death or, even worse, lecture at you. Instead, you can expect engagement, Socratic Seminars, theater games, interpersonal small group work, etc.
I look forward to seeing you in class.
