Mr. Anderson has been a respiratory care practitioner since graduating in 1974 from Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Wisconsin. After graduation, he worked at the University of Wisconsin Clinical Science Center for 6 years in the trauma and life support center, burn unit, cardiac surgery and medicine intensive care units, hematology, oncology, pediatrics, and pediatrics intensive care units.
He briefly served as clinical director of the UW respiratory care department but had the opportunity to transfer to the pulmonary function laboratory. During his tenure as clinical director of the PFT lab, he developed the hospital’s pulmonary exercise testing lab and polysomnography (sleep study) lab. He recently found out that he did the first sleep study in the State of Wisconsin in 1978.
His interest in exercise testing led him to complete a BS degree in exercise physiology from the University of Wisconsin. After graduation, he joined the Gulf Coast Community College faculty in Panama City, Florida for 3 years before joining the Boise State Respiratory Care faculty in 1986.
His primary areas of interest include adult critical care, critical care monitoring, pulmonary function testing, and exercise physiology.
Since joining the Boise State University Respiratory Care faculty, he completed a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. He has received the AT and Esther Steele Award for clinical teaching, the Provost’s advising award, the College of Health Sciences Faculty Service award, and the Golden Apple award (nominated by his students).
In alignment with his faculty service award, Mr. Anderson is a frequent presenter at local, state, regional, and national meetings. He also reviews articles for the Respiratory Care journal; and is a past president of the Idaho Society for Respiratory Care.
