Accreditation Visit Set for Next Week
College of Western Idaho (CWI) will welcome representatives from The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) to campus next week (Oct. 8-9) for the College’s second accreditation visit. The NWCCU granted CWI candidacy status for accreditation in January 2012 at which point the College entered a thorough review phase to demonstrate its potential for attaining accreditation within five years.

CWI Speech and Debate Wins Nine Awards to Open Season
The College of Western Idaho (CWI) Speech and Debate team is off to a strong start to the 2014-15 season with a successful showing at the Fran Tanner Invitational hosted by College of Southern Idaho last weekend (Sept. 26-27). CWI was represented by 25 students, including 15 first-time competitors, who captured nine awards across both speech and debate events.
“I am so proud of this team,” says CWI’s Director of Forensics, Johnny Rowing. “They worked hard and competed well beyond their experience level and received feedback that will help them have a successful season.”
CWI will look to build upon its success at the Fran Tanner Invitational as the group turns its attention to the Mahaffey Memorial, held Nov. 14-16, at Linfield College.
CWI Granted Important Financial Aid Designation
College of Western Idaho (CWI) is happy to announce the College has been approved for recertification to provide federal financial aid to CWI students through 2018. Recertification is a significant milestone and designation, as it officially concludes CWI’s initial provisional certification that was achieved in May 2012. CWI first independently disbursed Title IV financial aid to students in the Summer 2012 semester.
With the recertification process complete CWI agrees to comply with a number of important United States Department of Education regulations, including administering Title IV programs according to all applicable rules and laws.
Horticulture Club Presents 2014 Poinsettia Sale
The College of Western Idaho (CWI) Horticulture Club is hosting its' annual Poinsettia Sale. The club is currently taking orders and will continue to do so until 3 p.m. on Oct. 31. The poinsettias are locally grown and offer a variety of colors and sizes ranging in price from $8 to $39.50. The poinsettias will be ready for pick-up Dec. 2 and deliveries will be made to specific locations on Dec. 5. All orders must be prepaid by cash or check made payable to: CWI Horticulture Club. Sale proceeds will help support Horticulture Club students attending the 2015 National Collegiate Landscape Competition; PLANET Annual Student Career Days. Safety and Security Annual Report Complete
The College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Safety and Security Annual Report is now available. The report, which is required by federal law, includes information addressing CWI’s policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security. To comply with Clery Act requirements, the report also includes three years’ worth of statistics for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in or on off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the school, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to the campus. This report is available to view online at cwi.edu/info/safety-and-security-annual-reports. A printed copy can also be requested from the CWI Facilities Management Department.

Surgical Technology Program Hosts Showcase
Last month, the College of Western Idaho (CWI) Surgical Technology program welcomed the public into its brand-new lab at the Ada County Campus Quail Building in celebration of National Surgical Technology Week. Students and instructors answered questions from members of the program’s technical advisory committee, hospital contacts, and past and present students.
The open house also provided an opportunity to introduce, Cindy, the program’s new SynDaver Synthetic Human. The life-like learning tool provides students a head-to-toe synthetic physical representation of the human anatomy. The Surgical Technology instructors and students would like to thank all attendees for taking time to join in celebrating the profession and program.
Rake Up Nampa Volunteers Needed
The College of Western Idaho (CWI) Fun and Culture Committee (FCC) would like to invite employees to join them this fall to support the 2014 Rake Up Nampa event. The event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, Nov. 15. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Lindsay Reynolds at lindsayreynolds@cwi.edu by Oct. 10.
