President's Message
I want to congratulate the Accreditation Team on developing an excellent CWI Year One Accreditation Report that was submitted to the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) in September 2017. As a result of the Accreditation Team’s hard work, CWI received a communication from the NWCCU outlining the following key points:
- The NWCCU rescinded their request for an Ad-Hoc Self-Evaluation Report (previously due March 1) inclusive of an onsite visit in spring 2018 (previously scheduled for March 29).
- The Commission found CWI is substantially in compliance with NWCCU Recommendations 1-6, but there is still need for improvement.
- CWI must submit an Addendum with the Fall 2019 Mid-Cycle Self-Evaluation Report, addressing Recommendations 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Fall 2016 Initial Accreditation Peer Evaluation Report
- Removal of “Notice of Concern” for Standards 2.B.1, 2.B.4, 2.D.10, 2.G.3, 4.A.2, 4.A.6, 5.B.1, and 5.B.2.
- Next reports due to the NWCCU:
- Fall 2019 Mid-Cycle Self-Evaluation Report & Addendum, addressing NWCCU Recommendations 1-6 of the Fall 2016 Initial Accreditation Peer Evaluation Report
- Year 7 Evaluation Report due in fall 2023
Thank you for your continued work and support to ensure CWI meets these important benchmarks to maintain our accreditation through NWCCU.

The College of Western Idaho (CWI) Foundation scholarships application period is now open for the 2018-19 academic year. A variety of scholarship opportunities are available to students in the College’s academic and career-technical programs.

2018 Juried Art Show
College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Visual and Performing Arts Department is proud to be hosting the second-annual Juried Art Show. College students across the Treasure Valley are invited to submit artwork responding to the theme “Small Works/Big World”. Selected works will be displayed in the CWI Art Gallery during the College’s annual Connections Project event, April 26, and will remain on display through early August. One artist’s work, selected by a juror, will receive the Connection’s Excellence Award and be honored during the awards ceremony. The selected artist will additionally receive a $100 prize.
Last year, the exhibition was honored to have Karen Bubb, cultural planner at the City of Boise Department of Arts, serve as juror. Bubb selected 23 works from more than 60 entries to be featured at the Connections Project event. Boise State University student, Andrew Mason’s, piece entitled “Synchronicity” was selected as the winner of the 2017 Connections Excellence Award.
John McMahon, the Artist Services Director for the Idaho Commission on the Arts and a professional artist, has been selected as the juror for this year’s Juried Art Show.
Artwork must be submitted by Friday, March 23. For full submission details please visit the Connection’s Project submissions page or email juriedartshow@cwi.edu with questions.
Mark your calendars for this year's Connections Project, April 26, 2018, at the Nampa Campus Academic Building from 3-8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Visiting Artist Series—Shakespearience
College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) Visiting Artist Series is proud to welcome the Idaho Shakespeare Festival’s (ISF) Shakespearience program to the Nampa Campus Academic Building (NCAB) Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 7 to 8 p.m. to perform Julius Caesar. This classic drama of intrigue and allegiance is the ultimate historical thriller and on the reading list of many schools across Idaho and the United States. Caesar has returned victorious to Rome, but amid the celebrations are crosscurrents of unrest that will threaten the very foundation of the Republic. Caesar’s best friend, Brutus, will be forced to decide the future of Rome and in the process will knock history off its course.
The performance, suitable for all ages, will be sign interpreted (ASL). An acting workshop by ISF will be hosted following the performance in NCAB, room 206, from 8 to 9 p.m.
CWI’s Visiting Artist Series is made possible through a grant from Idaho Commission on the Arts, which is supported by National Endowment for the Arts. Visiting Artist Series workshops, featuring visual and performing artists, are free and open to the public.
