Micro 100 Tool Gives CWI Second Gift of 2014
The College of Western Idaho (CWI) Foundation is happy to announce Micro 100 Tool Corporation has made its second gift of the year to the CWI Machine Tool Technology program. This month, Micro 100 made a generous donation of 461 new, unused brazed carbide tooling parts. The gift came after Micro 100 provided over 1,000 tools for use by students in the program in January.
“Micro 100 Tool Corporation values the outstanding relationship with CWI and the Machine Tool Technology program as well,” says Micro 100 Tool Corporation Vice President of Manufacturing, Craig Graf. “Micro 100 hopes to continue to be an asset for the Machine Tool Technology program as well as CWI, and recognizes the influence the College has on our local economy and the education of its workforce.”
In addition to the donation Micro 100 also conducts a federally approved apprenticeship program certified by the Department of Labor and Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, which has employed five CWI Machine Tool Technology graduates to date. The program provides paid apprenticeship opportunities while students complete an Associate of Applied Science degree at CWI and potentially a Bachelor’s of Applied Science degree at Boise State University, before continuing with four years of employment at Micro 100 after graduation.
“This generous donation reduces the amount of money that the program will need to spend on this type of tooling,” says Machine Tool Program Chair, Dave Sperry. “The savings can then be spent in other areas to enhance the students learning in the lab.”
