News Highlights
2018 Fall Address
College of Western Idaho (CWI) President, Bert Glandon, delivered the 2018 State of the College Address to faculty, staff, and community on Monday, August 13, at the Nampa Civic Center.
The Address is a launching pad for the new school year and provides a chance for President Glandon to welcome faculty and staff, celebrate highlights from the past year, and provide vision moving forward. His presentation showcased a number of CWI’s transformational programs, including the exceptional Dual Credit program which serves more than 10,000 students completing 59,743 credits — making the College the largest dual credit provider in the state.
Glandon also discussed the $10 million appropriation CWI received from Gov. Butch Otter and the Idaho Legislature for a new Health Science Building. A combination of funding from sources, including a Capital Campaign, as well as support from taxpayers through a Plant Facilities Levy, will be needed. CWI’s new Health Science Building will provide a critical increase in capacity to address the skills gap in the healthcare industry.
In addition, Dr. Pamela Cox-Otto, co-owner of Interact Communications, delivered a compelling presentation highlighting the changes facing community colleges.
“I really appreciated the tone and especially the acknowledgement of staff and faculty at your address today,” said Laura Stavoe, CWI Dean of School Arts and Humanities. “I thought it was a really wonderful start to the year. I also thought Dr. Cox-Otto gave some really helpful information in a way that resonated and that will help all of us to make some important changes in the months to come. I know we have some big challenges this year, but if anyone can do it, we can.”
CWI is the largest community college in the state and the College is proud to serve more than 32,000 students.

CWI Night Hits it Out of the Park
One lucky, College of Western Idaho (CWI) student scored big with a $1,000 scholarship at CWI Night during the Boise Hawks game on Tuesday, July 31. Students, alumni, employees, family, and friends of the College community were invited for a night of baseball and fundraising.
For each CWI group ticket sold, $5 went directly back to the SCORE Big Scholarship funded through Employee Giving and group ticket sales. This year fans hit it out of the park with CWI receiving a $480 contribution to go towards future scholarships!
CWI alumnus, Shane Larson, threw the ceremonial first pitch and #mightyCWI student, Cory Hottinger, received the $1,000 scholarship presented to him during the game. Cory is a second-year Veteran student majoring in Philosophy. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed. See you at the next CWI Night!
