MEDIA ADVISORY - Last Wednesday (Feb. 6), the College of Western Idaho (CWI) Board of Trustees unanimously approved a reorganization of its General Education instruction which includes the addition of 14 new full-time faculty positions. These positions will serve multiple CWI campus locations throughout Boise and Nampa.
Since opening for classes in January 2009, student enrollment in general education studies has increased by more than 700 percent at the College. As part of CWI’s continuous efforts to adapt to the growth and continue to maintain high academic standards, the latest change in organizational structure and teaching resources was imminent. When deciding how best to organize the instructional departments and where to allocate the new positions, the number of sections in each discipline and full-time faculty ratio statistics were used. Preference was given to areas where the most students are served.
“The changes in our instructional management and the addition of these 14 new faculty positions are phenomenal news for our College and most importantly the students that we serve,” noted David Shellberg, Interim Vice President for Instruction. “The Boards’ commitment to prioritizing quality teaching and learning is evident in this decision and one that will improve our students’ access to support services.”
The new department structure will allocate instructional management and faculty resources to support each of the following departments:
- Social and Human Relations
- Culture, History, and Politics
- Philosophy and Communication
- English
- Visual and Performing Arts
- Modern Languages
- Physical Sciences
- Life Science
- Math
- Business
- Education
- Exercise and Health Science
The changes in organizational structure will be implemented over the spring and summer in preparation for the Fall 2013 semester. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for faculty positions online at cwi.edu.
