College of Western Idaho’s (CWI) President Bert Glandon delivered the 2017 State of the College Address to hundreds of faculty, staff, and students on Aug. 16 at the Nampa Civic Center.
President Glandon was able to welcome faculty back, celebrate highlights from the past year and provide vision moving forward. The event started with a breakfast, giving staff and faculty a chance to catch up before the Address.
President Glandon’s presentation showcased CWI’s accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Following accreditation, CWI is offering 12 new programs to better serve students.
He discussed CWI’s comprehensive plan for adapting to changes in higher education. The College remains poised to help student success with new expanded hours at One Stop Student Services, the introduction of a robust advising strategy and an integrated instruction model. President Glandon underscored the importance of increasing post-secondary credential attainment.
In addition, the annual faculty and staff awards were presented. Faculty of the year award went to Stephanie Ritchie Breach, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, while Phil Varrick in the CWI Budget Office was named Staff of the Year. Both Breach and Varrick received a standing ovation as they collected their awards. Nearly 70 employees were recognized with five years of service certificates. Two employees reached the ten year milestone of service, congratulations Cathy Hampton and Debbie Jensen!
