College of Western Idaho (CWI) is celebrating the success of alum Carlos Gonzales, who earned a runner-up finish at the 50th-annual national SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City, Mo., June 23-27. Gonzales was one of seven competitors representing CWI at the prestigious event, which hosted over 6,000 students from around the country.
Gonzales, a Boise resident, captured his silver medal in the Internetworking competition. The event featured over 60 competitors between the secondary and post-secondary levels. He earned his trip to nationals following a first-place finish at the SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference in April.
Gonzales is a native of Peru who moved to the United States in 2003 and relocated to Idaho in 2010. He graduated from the Cisco Network and Security Technologies program at CWI in May and is currently employed as a network administrator at Emmett High School.
