CWI Cybersecurity Award-Winning Students

Published: March 24, 2022

College of Western Idaho (CWI) Cybersecurity students, Alex Mitchell and Cameron White, joined up to take first place and a cash prize of $12,000 in the Cyber Entrepreneur Challenge.

The team, which also included Tatum Jones from Boise State University, focused on ways to integrate cybersecurity tools with physical security—specifically real-time alerts and real-time data entry.

Linda Otto, CWI cybersecurity professor shared, “Cameron was thrilled both with his experience in the competition and his experience here at CWI. Cameron is planning on graduating this fall and communicated the CWI cybersecurity program has far exceeded his expectations.”

CWI’s Cybersecurity program continues to grow and be a leader in training students to combat hackers and prepare security professionals to protect an organization’s data. Additionally, the College is completing construction of a new Secure Operating Center (SOC) to better train students in a state-of-the-art facility before entering the workforce.

Cameron added, “I love that as a part of this program, we can obtain several industry standard certifications that will allow us as students to be better prepared to enter the workforce.” He plans to utilize his part of the prize money for a future business venture.

Alex recently completed his studies at CWI and is now at Boise State.
