Alexa Shoemaker joined College of Western Idaho as a full-time faculty member in August of 2026. After first completing an Associates Degree from Treasure Valley Community College, she went on to receive her B.S. in Communication Studies from Eastern Oregon University and M.A. in Communication, Persuasion, and Rhetoric from Idaho State University. Over the course of her education and career, Alexa has worked in a range of private and public marketing positions in addition to being an adjunct professor for four Idaho institutions.
As an instructor, Alexa teaches courses for the Marketing Communications Certificate and Degree pathways. Her research interests involve intercultural communication, the social effects of globalized online media, and the motivational and systemic factors involved in marketing exchanges. She is passionate about education and loves the opportunity to connect her training and industry experience to classroom concepts.
An Idaho native, she grew up in the rural town of Fruitland before moving abroad to during her studies to live in Spain and later, Mexico. Alexa is an avid traveler and cook, taking every opportunity to experience a new culture and explore local cuisine. Any remaining free time is spent gardening, paddleboarding, reading, or playing with her dog.
