Disbursements and Refunds

You are here

Once you have been awarded, your financial aid will be credited and disbursed to your student account to pay for your tuition and any applicable fees. If there is an excess of funds, a refund will be issued to you. Charges, credits, and refunds (if applicable) can all be viewed in myCWI.

  • Utilizing Financial Aid

    Paying for Classes

CWI will automatically credit financial aid you've accepted in myCWI to your student account to pay for your tuition and any applicable fees.

IMPORTANT – If you do not complete the application process by the financial aid priority deadline, your financial aid may not apply to your account by the tuition and fees deadline.

    PURCHASING BOOKS & SUPPLIES

If you have an excess of financial aid after your charges have been paid, you may use those funds to purchase books and supplies at the CWI Bookstore. Your bookstore charges will be added to your student account and paid for with your financial aid credit.

Bookstore charging is available approximately 10 days prior to the start of classes, through the end of the first week of classes.

  • Financial Aid Disbursements

A disbursement is the releasing and payment of funds for your credited financial aid to your student account. Federal rules require that CWI confirms attendance on census each semester before disbursing funds. Once attendance has been confirmed, your aid will be disbursed.

IMPORTANT – If you do not complete the application process by the financial aid priority deadline, your disbursement may occur after the first scheduled disbursement date. After the first scheduled date has passed, disbursements occur on Mondays and Wednesdays, excluding federal holidays and institutional closures.

    Loan borrowers

First-time student loan borrowers are required to complete entrance counseling and all students who plan to borrow loans are required to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN). Failure to do so will prevent disbursement of loans.

All student loans will be disbursed in two equal payments. The first disbursement will occur at the beginning of the fall semester and the second will occur at the beginning of the the spring semester. If you are attending one semester only, the first disbursement will occur at the beginning of the semester and the second will occur at the mid-point of the semester. If you are a first-year, first-time loan borrower, the first disbursement of your loan(s) will not occur until 30 days after the start date of your first semester. This is a one-time requirement.
